Meet the Team: Ben Gobeil

Brief summary of your background. Where are you from? Where have you worked?

I’m from Sainte-Thérèse, a suburb of Montreal. When I was younger, I was really into sports and music and was in a band for a long time. I was always thinking I would either become a doctor or an engineer, and because I got interested in technology, probably through video games, I got my degree in computer engineering.

What kind of music did you play? Heavy Metal actually!

How did you get interested in crypto and web3?

I worked as a programmer for a lot of different telecom and cloud software companies and got really interested in F# programming language. Then I got a job programming F# and met one of the guys from Bulla who “orange-pilled” me on web3. I was super interested in being a part of the next-gen financial system.

What are you doing for Bulla?

My role has been leading the tech side of things. Over the last two years, I’ve tried to bring more structure to the systems at Bulla and make sure we’re engineering things so they’re sustainable for the long term. I’ve also had a small role in figuring out the roadmap, what it makes sense to do.

What interests you about working at Bulla?

Bulla is actually trying to solve real problems, not trying to make coins go to “10x.” We’re enabling people to do business without a bank account. I find that really fascinating.

What are you most interested in seeing happen in web3?

I’m excited to see businesses go on chain for all their operations –combining payments and invoices with the accounting built in, the true implementation of triple-entry accounting with Bulla. I think it’s going to make businesses a lot more efficient.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to train at the gym, play golf and chess, and hang out with friends. I also started boxing this year.
